Over 40 AIEF Scholarship Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 spent the day exploring the Queensland University of Technology and TAFE Queensland at the AIEF Tertiary Experience Day in Brisbane.

Students learned more about university life and course options, and heard from staff at the Oodgeroo Unit speak about the support available at QUT.

Staff from the Engineering faculty took students through an interactive activity where they learned about momentum and balance, while the Health faculty taught students more about the profession of podiatry with some stimulating activities involving making and measuring orthotics, and understanding bones, tendons, nerves and heartbeats.

Some familiar faces joined the experience as AIEF Alumni Kein Blackman and Philip Harris (St Joseph’s Nudgee College, 2014) took the opportunity to speak with current students about their experiences at university.

In the afternoon, students toured the TAFE Queensland Southbank campus, exploring faculties including Multimedia, Music, Hospitality and Fitness.

The TAFE at School Team gave an overview of TAFE Pathways, teaching students the difference between Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas and how this parallels the university pathway.

Students also heard from the Indigenous Support unit and from current TAFE student AIEF Alum Brayden Dunbar (St Joseph’s Nudgee College, 2014).
