Melbourne Grammar School has produced a star-studded list of VFL/AFL stars over the years, among whom AIEF Alum Benjamin Long gets a notable mention. Ben was recently named among Melbourne Grammar School’s best team of the past 50 years, selected to play in the forward line.
A proud Tiwi man from Darwin, Ben completed high school at Melbourne Grammar School in 2016 on an AIEF Scholarship. A standout athlete during his time at school, he played in a premiership with Footscray’s VFL team in 2016 before then being drafted by St Kilda as a 19-year-old at pick #25 in the national draft the same year.

“The players and the people that are here are awesome and they have been very welcoming to me and I am just happy to be here,” Ben said back in 2019.
Any player who debuted at VFL/AFL level from 1971 onwards was considered eligible for selection in MGS’s best team list, based on achievements only at VFL or AFL level. Benjamin has so far played 55 games and scored a total of 22 goals, as well as a Rising Star nomination in 2018.
With his talent and ambition to play among the best in the game, Ben’s star is certain to continue rising.
