One of our great achievements in 2021 was recognising the immense growth and importance of the Reconciliation Captain positions at PLC. Through meaningful conversations with Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, we were able to make the decision to promote the Reconciliation Captain positions from stage 3 to stage 1. This process was led by AIEF Student Tianna who demonstrated incredible leadership as Reconciliation Captain in 2021. As a school, we wanted to show that our First Nation students are highly valued members of the PLC community as they educate us by sharing their diverse perspectives, cultural knowledge and stories.

Another highlight was NAIDOC week where the whole school participated in a large 5m mural to display the six Noongar seasons. The artwork was done in collaboration with Dandjoo Darbalung (St Catherine’s College, UWA Indigenous Programme) who facilitated the activity and explained the significance of each Noongar season.

This year we saw four Indigenous young women graduate from PLC, of which two were supported by an AIEF scholarship. In 2022, we are very excited to welcome seven new students to the PLC Gorna Liyarn Indigenous programme.
