On Monday 9 February 22 mentor-student pairs attended the annual AIEF Mentor Program ‘kick off’ event in Sydney. Students and their mentors from the Commonwealth Bank, HSBC Bank Australia, KPMG, Qantas and Perpetual had the opportunity to board the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race winning maxi yacht Brindabella during the event, which was hosted at the Cruising Yacht Club by AIEF Corporate Partner KPMG.

The event opened with short presentations from KPMG’s NSW Chairman and Brindabella crew member Martin Blake, yacht owner Jim Cooney and sailing master Bradshaw Kellett, who spoke about their experiences in the Sydney to Hobart and some life lessons they had learnt along the way. Following the presentations, small groups were taken to tour the yacht itself, with many extra crew members on hand to help out and explain the equipment and particulars of the vessel. Students and mentors were very keen to see the yacht for themselves and enjoyed having a look round. They were also able to catch up, reconnect and share stories from the holidays.

AIEF thanks KPMG for generously hosting the event and providing a truly memorable experience for our mentor-student pairs.
