On Sunday, 26 February 2012, over 80 professional staff from AIEF’s corporate partners and Indigenous students from AIEF Partner Schools in Sydney gathered at PLC Sydney for an Induction Day to kick off the 2012 AIEF Mentor Program.

The AIEF Mentor Program aims to create a structured and trusting one-on-one relationship between a student and an experienced, professional individual who shares knowledge and offers guidance and support about life and career options. It is part of the AIEF Post-School Pathways Program that prepares and supports students in their transition from school into further study, training or employment and beyond, leading into productive and fulfilling careers.

The Induction Day on Sunday was filled with activities to introduce the program to the participants and to provide a platform for the newly formed mentor-student pairs get to know each other in a fun way. One mentor commented afterwards, “I felt very comfortable and enjoyed meeting my student and being able to start to build rapport. I am looking forward to forming a great relationship with my student and would like to thank you all for providing me with this great opportunity.”

Mentor and student pairs who are continuing from the 2011 AIEF Mentor Program also met to share the day and commence their second year of the program with an ‘amazing race’ and other group activities. A barbeque lunch concluded the official part of the day and everyone enjoyed the beautiful summer afternoon and the opportunity to eat, chat and laugh together in a casual environment.
