Over 18 and 19 October, AIEF held Learn It! Live It! Work Readiness Workshops for Year 11 and Year 12 students in Brisbane. The workshops were hosted by Perpetual at their Brisbane office for 90 students from 15 Partner Schools in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Cairns, Townsville and Perth.

On day one, Year 11 students enjoyed sessions on culture and identity, emotional intelligence and strengths and values with guest speakers Jennifer King from St Monica’s College, Cairns, and Digi Youth Arts founder Alethea Beetson.

The day concluded with inspiring former Olympian Catherine Freeman OAM speaking to the students about being true to themselves and maintaining strong support systems.

The following day, Year 12 students learned how to budget with Jaime from the Commonwealth Bank; improved their interview techniques with a team from Allens; and learned how to build their personal brand using LinkedIn.

Indigenous community leader Mike Salbro shared his story of personal discovery and how knowing his culture and building resilience helped shape his identity.

The day concluded with a panel discussion featuring AIEF Alumni sharing their experiences since leaving school – a valuable opportunity for students to learn from their older peers.
