During May AIEF Mentor Program participants around the country came together for mid-year group activities. The activities were a great opportunity for mentor-student pairs to meet and build on their relationships in a fun and relaxed environment.

In Melbourne, pairs gathered at the MCG to enjoy an AFL game thanks to AIEF Corporate Partner Swire, who generously provided their corporate box. The pairs enjoyed watching the game from such a great vantage point and the close score line made for exciting viewing.

In Sydney, Cairns and Brisbane, pairs met for an evening of ten pin bowling. The group then participated in games that pairs had created as part of a project throughout the term. The pairs developed very creative ideas and the exercise showed how well they had worked together. In Sydney, an additional group visited a Commonwealth Bank office, where they learned all about the bank’s operations and received a guided tour, including a visit to the trading floor, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

In Perth pairs attended a guided tour of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, followed by dinner at a local café. The tour guides gave a very engaging and informative tour with some students recognising featured artists from their own language groups, which encouraged discussion with mentors about the different regions of Western Australia the students’ families hail from.
