On Sunday 15 September 2013 the AIEF Mentor Program commenced in Western Australia with an Induction Day in Perth at AIEF Partner School Aquinas College.

13 Year 9 and 10 AIEF scholarship students from AIEF Partner Schools Aquinas College; Presbyterian Ladies’ College, Perth; Wesley College, South Perth; La Salle College; Trinity College; and Scotch College met their new mentors for the first time at the induction day. AIEF Corporate Partners BHP Billiton and BP Australia provided volunteer mentors for the Program.

The day’s activities introduced the Program and allowed the new mentor-student pairs to get to know one another while having fun. Mentors and students took part in trust and rapport-building exercises, discussed the keys to having a successful mentor relationship and shared ‘significant’ objects, like a favourite jacket or a sports trophy, with their mentoring partner. Mentors were also given the opportunity to meet with staff from their student’s school, learning more about their school while establishing goals and guidelines.

The day was a successful start to the AIEF Mentor Program and mentors and students committed to meet again over the coming weeks.

As part of the AIEF Pathways Program, the AIEF Mentor Program operates to create structured and trusting relationships between students and experienced, professional individuals who are able to share knowledge and offer guidance and support about life and career options.
