AIEF held its first Training and Employment Experience Day in Cairns recently with students from St Augustines College. Over the course of the day students visited the Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP), Tafe Queensland North, Skill360, the Mercure Hotel Harbourside and the Cairns Defence Force Recruitment Centre.
At each location the group was given a tour and an overview of the services available, helping students gain a greater understanding of the accommodation, employment and training opportunities in Cairns. One such opportunity is Accors Indigenous Job Ready Program. The students were interested to learn about all the different areas of work at the Mercure hotel Harbourside, as well as the national and international opportunities available through Accor.
Participants gave overwhelmingly positive feedback about the program and found that they came away from it more prepared for and confident about life after school. AIEF would like to thank the AIEF mentor who came to share their experiences of employment and training, and also all of the recruitment and support staff from each of the organisations who did a wonderful job engaging the interest and ambition of the students.
