On 18 November 2013, participants in the AIEF Mentor Program in Western Australia took part in an end of year group activity in Perth. The group of 11 mentors and 12 students joined an Indigenous tour guide for a walking tour of Kings Park and the Botanic Gardens, followed by a picnic in the park.

Students from Aquinas College, Wesley College, Scotch College, Presbyterian Ladies’ College Perth, Trinity College and La Salle College attended, along with their mentors from BHP Billiton and BP Australia.

During the tour the group learned about unique West Australian plants that have been used for bush food and medicine, and about various bush tools. They also heard the ancient dreamtime story of the Nyoongar people.

The activity was a great opportunity for mentor pairs to connect before the holidays, and some were able to make plans to meet again before the Christmas break.

The program will re-commence with another group activity in February 2014.
