On Thursday 3 September 2015 47 AIEF Year 11 and 12 students from seven Partner Schools in NSW and VIC attended the Learn It! Live It! Work Readiness Workshop at the Novotel Sydney. The workshop is designed to help students gain the skills and knowledge they need to make a successful transition from school to careers.

Year 12 students attended sessions on financial literacy, interview techniques and public speaking, facilitated by major Corporate Partners and supporters including Allens, AFL, Qantas and Directioneering. AIEF Ambassador Stephanie Brantz facilitated the Year 12 program with AIEF Alum Latiesha Dunbar, and several AIEF Alumni shared their experiences during an interactive panel discussion.

The Year 11 workshop focused on developing students’ interpersonal skills, resilience and motivation, with sessions on culture and identity, emotional intelligence, strengths and values and a special presentation by Jeremy Donovan, CEO of GenerationOne. Five AIEF Alumni assisted students during the workshop, and students wrapped up the day with a round of ten-pin bowling. After the workshop, one student commented, “no matter what background you come from, there’s always a good future if you’re willing to work for it.”

AIEF would like to thank Brigette Sancho and Jumbunna, the Indigenous House of Learning at the University of Technology, Sydney, for generously supporting the event this year. Thank you to Hollie Adams for her photography services over part of the day.
