In the first week of the September 2011 school holidays, 27 students from AIEF Partner Schools in New South Wales and Queensland jumped on the bus in Sydney and journeyed to Namadgi National Park in Tharwa, ACT for the AIEF Outward Bound Program.
The students had an amazing time making friends, overcoming physical challenges such as walking up Mt Tennent carrying big backpacks, abseiling, high ropes courses and being responsible for feeding and sheltering the group each night, whilst also overcoming emotional challenges such as home sickness and opening up to new friendships.
The brave adventurers were resilient to the cold and rainy weather and got to the end of camp with great support from their peers. They have grown in self-confidence, learnt whats in them and how much is possible when you work as a team, and many have gained some valuable lessons and a new outlook on life and themselves.
This activity It is part of the AIEF Post-School Pathways Program, which offers a wide range of work-readiness activities and support to help students transition from school into further study and careers. The aim of the program is to inform them about career options and provide one-on-one support to develop and achieve their career goals.
