11 students from AIEF Partner Schools Trinity College, Wesley College, La Salle College and Aquinas College participated in an Experience Visit at BHP Billiton in Perth where they explored the different career paths available.
The students learnt about the apprenticeships, traineeships, school-based traineeships and scholarships that are available and visited BHP Billitons apprentice centre at Welshpool where they were given work wear including steel capped boots, reflective vests and glasses and invited to explore the centre where all apprentices undertake training. The students also heard from first-year apprentices in a variety of roles including diesel mechanics, boiler makers and electricians, who explained the recruitment process, their roles and what they enjoy about their jobs.
