In October 2019, AIEF Scholarship Students from schools across Australia travelled to Canberra to participate in the Work Exposure in Government (WEX) Program. The program aims to provide Indigenous students with hands on experience and information about job opportunities and career pathways in the Australian Government.
Students were given tours of the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Defence Force Academy, Australian Federal Police and the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. They met with the Minister for Indigenous Australians Ken Wyatt AM, Senator for Tasmania Richard Colbeck, Member for Curtin Celia Hammond, Professor Ian Anderson AO, Shadow Minister for Education and Training Tanya Plibersek and other politicians and prominent leaders.
AIEF Scholarship Students Benjamin (Marist College Ashgrove) and Charlotte (Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School) were given the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Scott Morrison in his office in Parliament House.
